| Quote: | What bands spring to mind when you think of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal? Iron Maiden? Def Leppard? Maybe Saxon? Well, chances are that Angel Witch are not the ones on the tip of your tongue. While not as popular as the above bands, their 1980 self-titled debut had enough power and undiluted riffage to rival any of the aforementioned bands at their peak. Since then, several reunions have come and gone, with records that have pailed in comparison to their first classic. However, when it seemed like all they had to offer was mere nostalgia, Angel Witch have finally bounced back with an album which feels like a spiritual successor to their self titled seminal debut – about bloody time!
With many bands nowadays trying their hand at “Traditional Metal”, Angel Witch shows these youngsters how it’s done with As Above, So Below. The opening track, ‘Dead Sea Scrolls’ immediately flies out the traps and the momentum doesn’t really stop. Singer and guitarist Kevin Heybourne practically sets his six-string on fire, showing great technicality and musicality in his solos. While the sound of this album is quite obviously based on the NWOBHM blueprint, it never seems dated or clichéd. The song writing is the key to this album’s success, with speedy tunes like ‘Brainwashed’ and ‘Gebura’, mixed in with doomier tracks like ‘Witching Hour’ and ‘Upon This Cord’, Angel Witch definitely show more diversity than most bands their age.
Some songs do tend to go on a bit however (a few would do with being four minutes, not seven). Also, Kevin’s voice, while it works well to some degree, does get monotonous occasionally. However, these are minor problems in an otherwise great piece of work.
Therefore, despite some flaws, Angel Witch’s As Above, So Below is a great one for cranking up to 11, and headbanging ‘til your neck breaks. |

Enig. Møkkirriterende låt. Tror ikke jeg har hørt særlig mer av Angel Witch, og ikke har jeg lyst heller. Skrives det Angel Witch eller Angelwitch? Det første ser tragisk ut, det siste ser beintøft ut. |

Nei, refrenget gjentas jo i det uendelige, og når man har hørt låten en del ganger, får man rett og slett nok. Resten av plata er kurrant da. |

Ifølge en kar på Sacred Metal-forumet så minner skiva litt om Lillian Axe, mens KIT-karen skriver at den er 100% metal og meget bra. Både første og andre alternativ høres lovende ut, så den bør kanskje sjekkes.
Er visstnok fire hønngamle låter, resten nye. |

Eneste låta jeg har hørt av bandet. Egentlig en ganske kul låt, men jeg fikk mark av refrenget. |

| Eneste jeg har hørt av bandet var låta med samme navn som Stian valgte ut i Ambolt for en mannsalder siden. Husker refrenget enda, kul låt. |
